Why Bellydancing for My Hen Do?

It can be quite a difficult and stressful business planning a hen do these days. It no longer seems a matter of getting a male strippergram and having a boozy night out. Nowadays it is common to plan an entire hen weekend, packed with activities and fun. A belly dancing lesson is an ideal addition to a hen night or weekend.

• It can be a wonderful surprise when a beaded and sequinned exotic belly dancer turns up to your party.
• It is safe and can be done by almost all women, big or small, old or young.
• It's sexy but not obscene so would suit everyone from best mates to Mums or even Grans.
• It's a lovely skill you might want to take up in the future and a taster class is an ideal introduction.
• It's a great icebreaker and gets you in the mood for dancing later on.

It's hard to imagine a better activity for a hen weekend than belly dancing. It's such an all-inclusive activity, you don't have to be super-slim, you don't have to be young, and you don't even have to be female. There are some superb male belly dancers around the world, so if you have your best gay guy friend on your hen do, he needn't be left out.

The element of surprise can be very important. If the hen-do organizer can keep it a secret, the belly dancer should be able to work with her, remaining hidden until the big moment and doing a short performance before the class begins. It is so much better if it is a surprise, and it is part of the dancer's fee, the cloak-and-dagger organization, the sneaking in, the getting changed in the lavatory. All of this adds to the stress on the dancer, and she should be remunerated accordingly. Also she may well be entering a room she has never even seen before and that is also unusual. This is why a hen-night belly dance class might seem to be more expensive than a normal class.

It's more energetic and fun than yoga, less serious than pilates, an ideal ice-breaker for the beginning of the evening, and some people find they love it so much that they take up Egyptian dance classes as a consequence.

Really it's difficult to think of a better hen do activity than a bellydance class. The bride can be dressed up like an Egyptian Princess, the other ladies can wear beautiful coin hip belts, and everyone can have a very good time. It is best though that this activity takes place before any appreciable amounts of alcohol have been consumed!
